Simple Pleasures Banish the January Blues

January, not the best month of the year. The decorations are put away and the Christmas festivities are becoming a memory. So how to brighten up a wintery afternoon?

Light a  fire,  make a batch of scones  and serve with some cream and home made jams.  It may not be good for the waistline but the smell of baking, the crackle of logs blazing in the grate and a cup of Earl Grey really does something to waken the senses and make you think that there is light at the end of the winter tunnel!

I love to have a good selection of home made jams in the pantry. My current favourites are raspberry - which can be mde at any time of the year as frozen raspberries are equally as successful as fresh and some delicious apricot which incorporates some of the kernels  and vanilla pod for a beautiful distinctive flavour.

Decisions, decisions or why not sample both and of course you also need to decide if the cream should be spread first or the jam!

Now I am off to to Loughborough market to buy my Seville oranges to make the 2018 batch of marmalade which is always available on the breakfast table here at Hrempis Farm.  I am also planning on making a second batch

incorporating stem ginger into the recipe but that is another story....
